A previous picture I posted of Orwell in Spain (and took down) proved to be a fake. It turned out to be the cover picture of the first edition of 'Homage To Catalonia'. Couldn't have been Orwell since in HTC he mentions that the POUM (Partido Obrero de Unification Marxista) lacked bayonets as well as a lot of other essentials. The rifles in that cover pic are all fitted with bayonets.
This picture however is genuine and authenticated by the presence of his wife, Eileen, seated on his left. Orwell is the tall figure in the middle. He was shot in the throat and his wife helped him escape to France after the members of the POUM were arrested by soldiers from the Republican government.
