Gordon Brown - An Appraisal

I read this comment on the Daily Telegraph Blog today. It's not what you would call an impartial or moderate point of view. But, sadly, it's spot on:
''Gordon Brown will go down in history as the most useless, loathsome lump of lard who ever governed Britain.
# a vicious racist who appointed other known racists like Phil Woolas - later barred from being an MP after racist offences - to top Govt posts.
# a yankee suck-up traitor who sent British troops to aid foreign governments on missions of mass-genocide - in conflicts where Britain had no national interests at all
# a gullible, credulous dunce who swallowed the trash about WMD whole, and kept repeating it to others as though it was true
# a brutal, vicious thug who cheerfully signed the cheques for Britain to invest in more torture and and murder equipment
# never faced an election as PM in his entire worthless life
# an economic klutz who waited for gold to drop to its lowest point before selling Britain's gold reserves at a loss
# a yankee-loving spineless traitor who always put America's interests above Britain's, at every possible opportunity
# sat in No 10 and cried like a booby when he lost the election, and refused to come out for three days, like the gutless lump of blubber he truly is
# imposed his severe levels of chronic mental illness upon the entire country
# has serially failed to show up in the House of Commons since losing the election - sits at home and cries, while happily claiming his MP's salary and expenses for a job he's failed to do.
THIS VILE LUMP OF BLUBBER MUST NEVER BE PERMITTED TO TAKE A SEAT IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS.''

Zelikow first revealed the existence of his secret memo, dated Feb. 15, 2006, in an April 2009 blog post, shortly after the Obama administration disclosed many of its predecessor’s legal opinions blessing torture. He brieflydescribed it (.pdf) in a contentious Senate hearing shortly thereafter, revealing then that “I later heard the memo was not considered appropriate for further discussion and that copies of my memo should be collected and destroyed.”
At least one copy survived in the files of the department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research. The State Department has now disclosed it to Danger Room, mostly without redactions — three years after this reporter filed an official request for it. You can read the memo for yourself, below.

jenes andere Land beim Namen zu nennen,

ein wachsend nukleares Potential verfügbar
aber außer Kontrolle, weil keiner Prüfung
zugänglich ist?
Das allgemeine Verschweigen dieses Tatbestandes,
dem sich mein Schweigen untergeordnet hat,
empfinde ich als belastende Lüge
und Zwang, der Strafe in Aussicht stellt,
sobald er mißachtet wird;
das Verdikt "Antisemitismus" ist geläufig.
Jetzt aber, weil aus meinem Land,
das von ureigenen Verbrechen,
die ohne Vergleich sind,
Mal um Mal eingeholt und zur Rede gestellt wird,
wiederum und rein geschäftsmäßig, wenn auch
mit flinker Lippe als Wiedergutmachung deklariert,
ein weiteres U-Boot nach Israel
geliefert werden soll, dessen Spezialität
darin besteht, allesvernichtende Sprengköpfe
dorthin lenken zu können, wo die Existenz
einer einzigen Atombombe unbewiesen ist,
doch als Befürchtung von Beweiskraft sein will,
sage ich, was gesagt werden muß.
Warum aber schwieg ich bislang?
Weil ich meinte, meine Herkunft,
die von nie zu tilgendem Makel behaftet ist,
verbiete, diese Tatsache als ausgesprochene Wahrheit
dem Land Israel, dem ich verbunden bin
und bleiben will, zuzumuten.
Warum sage ich jetzt erst,
gealtert und mit letzter Tinte:
Die Atommacht Israel gefährdet
den ohnehin brüchigen Weltfrieden?
Weil gesagt werden muß,
was schon morgen zu spät sein könnte;
auch weil wir - als Deutsche belastet genug -
Zulieferer eines Verbrechens werden könnten,
das voraussehbar ist, weshalb unsere Mitschuld
durch keine der üblichen Ausreden
zu tilgen wäre.
Und zugegeben: ich schweige nicht mehr,
weil ich der Heuchelei des Westens
überdrüssig bin; zudem ist zu hoffen,
es mögen sich viele vom Schweigen befreien,
den Verursacher der erkennbaren Gefahr
zum Verzicht auf Gewalt auffordern und
gleichfalls darauf bestehen,
daß eine unbehinderte und permanente Kontrolle
des israelischen atomaren Potentials
und der iranischen Atomanlagen
durch eine internationale Instanz
von den Regierungen beider Länder zugelassen wird.
Nur so ist allen, den Israelis und Palästinensern,
mehr noch, allen Menschen, die in dieser
vom Wahn okkupierten Region
dicht bei dicht verfeindet leben
und letztlich auch uns zu helfen.

Spying On Your Emails - Clegg Denies, So It Must Be True
Downing Street insisted only data – times, dates, numbers and addresses – not content would be accessible as it sought to quell fears about the proposals.But some Lib Dems and civil liberties groups were adamant the plan would indeed give the security services access to the content and details of people's communications.
Julian Huppert, the Lib Dem MP for Cambridge who sits on the Commons home affairs select committee, said: "No expert I've ever spoken to can see how this could possibly be done without great expense and without allowing access to the actual message that was sent – which is not legal without a warrant from the home secretary. I haven't seen the details of these proposals – not for want of asking – but it's clear to me that what we want is more safeguards, not more powers for the state to keep data."
Another senior Lib Dem MP said the proposals would have to give access to content and would ride a "coach and horses" through the party's principles.
Kurds To Iraq 'No Pay, No Oil'
'Iraq’s autonomous northern Kurdish region will not resume oil exports until an agreement has been reached with Baghdad on payments for oil companies working in the area, Kurdish Energy Minister Ashti Hawrami said yesterday.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) stopped oil exports on Sunday, accusing the central government of failing to pay producers in the north, the latest clash in a long-running feud over control of oil in the north.
“There is an agreement. You take and pay. They want to take but not to pay. How can that be?” Hawrami said in a telephone interview.
“Oil exports will not start again unless there is an agreement on the payment policy,” he told Reuters.
The KRG warned last week it would stop oil exports - which it had reduced to 50,000 bpd - because of a lack of payments from Baghdad.
Tensions between the central government and the Kurdish region rose last year when Hawrami announced an oil deal with US oil major Exxon Mobil.
Baghdad maintains that it alone has the right to export oil while the KRG says it should have control of oil in its region.
Earlier yesterday, Iraq’s Oil Minister Abdul Kareem Luaibi said Exxon had sent a second letter to the oil ministry confirming its decision to freeze its oil deals with the Kurdish autonomous region.
Hawrami challenged the existence of the letter and said the KRG was in contact with Exxon on a daily basis.'

[Thatcher's] damaged leadership could not survive a futile 'voyage to nowhere'."

Maliki Condemns Attempts To Destroy Syrian Regime
In a Sunday press conference in the Iraqi capital, Maliki said Baghdad rejects “any arming” of the Syrian rebels and the “process to overthrow the regime, because this will leave a greater crisis in the region.”
“It has been one year and the regime did not fall, and it will not fall, and why should it fall?”
The Iraqi premier made the remarks on the day when the second meeting of the so-called “Friends of Syria” group was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey have voiced support for the rebels in Syria.
However, Syrians have repeatedly expressed support for the Damascus government over the past months.
“We are against the interference of some countries in Syria’s internal affairs, and those countries that are interfering in Syria’s internal affairs will interfere in the internal affairs of any country,” the Iraqi prime minister added.
