Gordon Brown - An Appraisal
![]() |
| Ah'm Ready For Yer Kiss, Brownie |
I read this comment on the Daily Telegraph Blog today. It's not what you would call an impartial or moderate point of view. But, sadly, it's spot on:
''Gordon Brown will go down in history as the most useless, loathsome lump of lard who ever governed Britain.
# a vicious racist who appointed other known racists like Phil Woolas - later barred from being an MP after racist offences - to top Govt posts.
# a yankee suck-up traitor who sent British troops to aid foreign governments on missions of mass-genocide - in conflicts where Britain had no national interests at all
# a gullible, credulous dunce who swallowed the trash about WMD whole, and kept repeating it to others as though it was true
# a brutal, vicious thug who cheerfully signed the cheques for Britain to invest in more torture and and murder equipment
# never faced an election as PM in his entire worthless life
# an economic klutz who waited for gold to drop to its lowest point before selling Britain's gold reserves at a loss
# a yankee-loving spineless traitor who always put America's interests above Britain's, at every possible opportunity
# sat in No 10 and cried like a booby when he lost the election, and refused to come out for three days, like the gutless lump of blubber he truly is
# imposed his severe levels of chronic mental illness upon the entire country
# has serially failed to show up in the House of Commons since losing the election - sits at home and cries, while happily claiming his MP's salary and expenses for a job he's failed to do.
THIS VILE LUMP OF BLUBBER MUST NEVER BE PERMITTED TO TAKE A SEAT IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS.''

The Arundel Tomb By Philip Larkin
Side by side, their faces blurred,
The earl and countess lie in stone,
Their proper habits vaguely shown
As jointed armour, stiffened pleat,
And that faint hint of the absurd -
The little dogs under their feet.
Such plainness of the pre-baroque
Hardly involves the eye, until
It meets his left-hand gauntlet, still
Clasped empty in the other; and
One sees, with a sharp tender shock,
His hand withdrawn, holding her hand.
They would not think to lie so long.
Such faithfulness in effigy
Was just a detail friends would see:
A sculptor's sweet commissioned grace
Thrown off in helping to prolong
The Latin names around the base.
They would no guess how early in
Their supine stationary voyage
The air would change to soundless damage,
Turn the old tenantry away;
How soon succeeding eyes begin
To look, not read. Rigidly they
Persisted, linked, through lengths and breadths
Of time. Snow fell, undated. Light
Each summer thronged the grass. A bright
Litter of birdcalls strewed the same
Bone-littered ground. And up the paths
The endless altered people came,
Washing at their identity.
Now, helpless in the hollow of
An unarmorial age, a trough
Of smoke in slow suspended skeins
Above their scrap of history,
Only an attitude remains:
Time has transfigured them into
Untruth. The stone fidelity
They hardly meant has come to be
Their final blazon, and to prove
Our almost-instinct almost true:
What will survive of us is love.

Holy Thursday By William Blake
Twas on a Holy Thursday, their innocent faces clean,
The children walking two and two, in red and blue and green,
Grey-headed beadles walk’d before, with wands as white as snow,
Till into the high dome of Paul’s they like Thames’ waters flow.
O what a multitude they seem’d, these flowers of London town!
Seated in companies they sit with radiance all their own.
The hum of multitudes was there, but multitudes of lambs,
Thousands of little boys and girls raising their innocent hands.
Now like a mighty wind they raise to heaven the voice of song,
Or like harmonious thunderings the seats of Heaven among.
Beneath them sit the aged men, wise guardians of the poor;
Then cherish pity, lest you drive an angel from your door.
Israel/Iran - Guerre Des Mots
War Crime Felony By Bushco
Zelikow argued that the Geneva conventions applied to al-Qaida — a position neither the Justice Department nor the White House shared at the time. That made waterboarding and the like a violation of the War Crimes statute and a “felony,” Zelikow tells Danger Room. Asked explicitly if he believed the use of those interrogation techniques were a war crime, Zelikow replied, “Yes.”
Zelikow first revealed the existence of his secret memo, dated Feb. 15, 2006, in an April 2009 blog post, shortly after the Obama administration disclosed many of its predecessor’s legal opinions blessing torture. He brieflydescribed it (.pdf) in a contentious Senate hearing shortly thereafter, revealing then that “I later heard the memo was not considered appropriate for further discussion and that copies of my memo should be collected and destroyed.”
At least one copy survived in the files of the department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research. The State Department has now disclosed it to Danger Room, mostly without redactions — three years after this reporter filed an official request for it. You can read the memo for yourself, below.

Mark Steel On George Galloway
He's also baffled the politicians and commentators who think they know how politics works. So the suggestion is made that the outcome was a result of Galloway unfairly courting the Muslim vote. Because as anyone knows, if you want to trick a Muslim to vote for you, it's best to be a Scottish Catholic standing against a Labour Muslim. That's why the entire Pakistani parliament is made up of Celtic fans, and the current Prime Minister of Bangladesh is Andy McDowell, from Falkirk. MORE
Gunter Grass On The Israel Threat
sobald er mißachtet wird;
und bleiben will, zuzumuten.
Warum sage ich jetzt erst,
gealtert und mit letzter Tinte:
Die Atommacht Israel gefährdet
den ohnehin brüchigen Weltfrieden?
Weil gesagt werden muß,
was schon morgen zu spät sein könnte;
auch weil wir - als Deutsche belastet genug -
Zulieferer eines Verbrechens werden könnten,
das voraussehbar ist, weshalb unsere Mitschuld
durch keine der üblichen Ausreden
zu tilgen wäre.
Und zugegeben: ich schweige nicht mehr,
weil ich der Heuchelei des Westens
überdrüssig bin; zudem ist zu hoffen,
es mögen sich viele vom Schweigen befreien,
den Verursacher der erkennbaren Gefahr
zum Verzicht auf Gewalt auffordern und
gleichfalls darauf bestehen,
vom Wahn okkupierten Region
dicht bei dicht verfeindet leben
und letztlich auch uns zu helfen.
Why I am silent, silent about too long,
what is obvious and in simulations
was practiced, at the end as survivors,
was offensichtlich ist und in Planspielen
geübt wurde, an deren Ende als Überlebende

Why I am silent, silent about too long,
what is obvious and in simulations

we are at best footnotes.
It is alleged that on the first strike
of the enslaved from bullies
and to organized guided cheers
could destroy Iranian people,
because in the sphere of building
a nuclear bomb is suspected.
But why do I say to myself,
to call that other country by name,
in the years since - though secret -
a growing nuclear capabilities available
but out of control, because no test
is available?
The general concealment of this fact,
which my silence subordinate,
I find incriminating lies
and coercion, the penalty is in prospect,
if he is ignored;
the verdict of "antisemitism" is familiar.
But now, because in my country,
that of innate crimes
that are without comparison,
sought time to time and will be taken to task,
in turn, and purely commercial basis, even if
declared with nimble lip as reparation,
another U-boat to Israel
delivered should be, whose specialty
is all-destroying warheads
to be able to steer to where the existence
of a single atomic bomb is unproven,
but wants to be a fear of evidentiary value,
I say what needs to be said.
But why I kept quiet until now?
As I said, my background,
which is never subject to tilgendem blemish,
forbade this fact as a definite truth
to the land of Israel, whom I am connected
and want to stay, be expected.
Why do I say now only:

Spying On Your Emails - Clegg Denies, So It Must Be True
Downing Street insisted only data – times, dates, numbers and addresses – not content would be accessible as it sought to quell fears about the proposals. But some Lib Dems and civil liberties groups were adamant the plan would indeed give the security services access to the content and details of people's communications.
Julian Huppert, the Lib Dem MP for Cambridge who sits on the Commons home affairs select committee, said: "No expert I've ever spoken to can see how this could possibly be done without great expense and without allowing access to the actual message that was sent – which is not legal without a warrant from the home secretary. I haven't seen the details of these proposals – not for want of asking – but it's clear to me that what we want is more safeguards, not more powers for the state to keep data."
Another senior Lib Dem MP said the proposals would have to give access to content and would ride a "coach and horses" through the party's principles.
Kurds To Iraq 'No Pay, No Oil'
'Iraq’s autonomous northern Kurdish region will not resume oil exports until an agreement has been reached with Baghdad on payments for oil companies working in the area, Kurdish Energy Minister Ashti Hawrami said yesterday.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) stopped oil exports on Sunday, accusing the central government of failing to pay producers in the north, the latest clash in a long-running feud over control of oil in the north.
“There is an agreement. You take and pay. They want to take but not to pay. How can that be?” Hawrami said in a telephone interview.
“Oil exports will not start again unless there is an agreement on the payment policy,” he told Reuters.
The KRG warned last week it would stop oil exports - which it had reduced to 50,000 bpd - because of a lack of payments from Baghdad.
Tensions between the central government and the Kurdish region rose last year when Hawrami announced an oil deal with US oil major Exxon Mobil.
Baghdad maintains that it alone has the right to export oil while the KRG says it should have control of oil in its region.
Earlier yesterday, Iraq’s Oil Minister Abdul Kareem Luaibi said Exxon had sent a second letter to the oil ministry confirming its decision to freeze its oil deals with the Kurdish autonomous region.
Hawrami challenged the existence of the letter and said the KRG was in contact with Exxon on a daily basis.'

Falklands War - 30th Anniversary Today
The US embassy in London made clear in a cable dated 7 April that "wets" in Thatcher's government shared Haig's concern that the British military had the upper hand over the diplomats.
"Tory moderates and Foreign Office are concerned that Prime Minister Thatcher has been listening largely to the Ministry of Defence, especially senior naval officers, and may not adequately be considering non-military options," the embassy cable said.
American government analysts believed a British victory was far from guaranteed. The state department's intelligence bureau produced an analysis on 7 April 1982 pointing out the vulnerability of the British taskforce so far from home. It said: "The effectiveness of the fleet, far from its maintenance bases, will rapidly deteriorate after its arrival on station. [Thatcher's] damaged leadership could not survive a futile 'voyage to nowhere'."

Maliki Condemns Attempts To Destroy Syrian Regime
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki says Baghdad rejects attempts to overthrow the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and arming the rebels .
In a Sunday press conference in the Iraqi capital, Maliki said Baghdad rejects “any arming” of the Syrian rebels and the “process to overthrow the regime, because this will leave a greater crisis in the region.”
“It has been one year and the regime did not fall, and it will not fall, and why should it fall?”
The Iraqi premier made the remarks on the day when the second meeting of the so-called “Friends of Syria” group was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey have voiced support for the rebels in Syria.
However, Syrians have repeatedly expressed support for the Damascus government over the past months.
“We are against the interference of some countries in Syria’s internal affairs, and those countries that are interfering in Syria’s internal affairs will interfere in the internal affairs of any country,” the Iraqi prime minister added.

Corrupting The Biblical Message
Not only does Zionism cloak itself in the Jewish faith, it hides its ugly face behind Christianity’s skirts. And, believe it or not, there is even a movement calling itself the World Muslim Zionist Organization. In Christianity’s case the rot set in way back in1909 when the Scofield study bible was published and became the standard religious text in the United States. It’s a propaganda classic. And the indoctrination has lasted 100 years.Cyrus Scofield, a convicted criminal and described by one American newspaper as “a shyster”, was commissioned to re-write the King James bible by inserting Zionist-friendly notes. The idea was to change the Christian view of Zionism by creating and promoting a pro-Zionist sub-culture within Christianity. The Oxford University Press appointed Scofield as editor, and the Scofield Reference Bible was bornIt introduced a new worship icon, the modern State of Israel, which did not exist until 1948 but was already being ‘prepped’ on the drawing board of the World Zionist movement. Nir Rosen - Aftermath
“Nir Rosen has almost single handedly rescued the name of journalism in the Middle East from a class of reporters who function as courtiers and propagandists for the military and our political elite. Rosen's fierce independence and honesty, as well as an ability to see the wars we are fighting from all sides, make his book exceptional for its nuance, complexity and insight into our bloody march through the Muslim world. Aftermath: Following the Bloodshed of America's Wars in the Muslim World is a stark, unvarnished account of the folly of empire, the futility of violence as an instrument of reform and democracy and the gross ineptitude of our political and military class. Rosen lays before his readers the anguished voices and experiences of those we occupy. He does this with a sensitivity and cultural literacy that is as rare as it is essential. Aftermath is one of the most important contemporary accounts of America's misguided "war on terror." -Chris Hedges, author of War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning and Empire of Illusion

Drones, Ethics And Legality
Large or small, drones raise questions about the growing disconnect between the American public and its wars. Military ethicists concede that drones can turn war into a video game and, with no Americans directly at risk, more easily draw the United States into conflicts. Drones have also created a crisis of information for analysts on the end of a daily video deluge. FROM HERE
