Britain's Abu Ghraib

'The evidence of abuse is emerging just weeks after defence officials admitted that British soldiers and airmen are suspected of being responsible for the murder and manslaughter of a number of Iraqi civilians in addition to the high-profile case of Baha Mousa, the hotel receptionist tortured to death by troops in September 2003. One man is alleged to have been kicked to death aboard an RAF helicopter, while two others died after being held for questioning.'

You Are Here (In The Universe) - Minkowski Diagrams

Every one of us is located in our own personal world-point in terms of space, time and space-time.
A spacetime diagram, often called a Minkowski diagram, is a geometric representation of motions in spacetime. The vertical axis is usually plotted as the time axis (and normally one uses ct for this axis, so that one has conventional units of distance on all axes and light will make a 45° path). Depending upon the situation one sometimes plots a single spatial dimension, or two spatial dimensions (real spacetime has three spatial dimensions, but these cannot be represented along with the one time dimension in ordinary 3D drawings). Any point in spacetime is called a world point, and a series of worldpoints representing the motion of some object is called a world line.

If ct is used for the time axis, then light on a Minkowski diagram will always travel at 45° to the time axis (either right or left at 45° in a one spatial direction Minkowski diagram, along the surfaces of a 45° cone - called the light cone - in a dual spatial dimension Minkowski diagram.
Tony says:  We all have our allocated world-point and notch in space-time. Make the best of it and leave it as you found it or better for the next occupants. Warmongering upsets the natural balance of the universe and the cosmos. Yes, I am trying to make my interest in these matters relevant to this site.  Einstein would have endorsed my point of view. He would have bought me a drink.

Dubya’s Book – Some Thoughts

Bush’s memoir is due out on Tuesday. A few points are worth making:-

He makes clear that he personally approved the use of waterboarding against alleged 9/11 plotter Khalid Sheik Mohammed, an admission the human-rights experts say could one day have legal consequences for him. He recounts being asked by the CIA whether it could proceed with waterboarding Mohammed, who Bush said was suspected of knowing about still-pending terrorist plots against the U.S. Bush writes that his reply was "Damn right" We don’t think the powerful with powerful friends are ever likely to face the courts either in America or at The Hague. Karadzic ended up in the dock at The Hague because he had no friends, unlike Tony B£air and Dubya.

Being accused of not caring about black people was the ‘most disgusting moment’ of his presidency he says. No, I can think of quite a few more. I’ll bet so can most of the New Orleans citizens who lost their homes or loved ones, particularly after the floods and during the incompetent relief effort.

He describes himself as ‘sickened’ by the failure to find WMD’s in Iraq. Not as sickened, I suspect, as the citizens, and particularly children, of Fallujah still suffering the effects of white phosphorous and depleted uranium from bombings ordered by Dubya himself.

I could list many more howlers from the leaked content of his book but it would be too depressing for us all. Dubya lacks a sense of perspective, I think. ←(understatement).

From Murderer To US Election Candidate

Murderer Pantano Is On The Left Here

Ilario Pantano has said he has no regrets about fatally shooting the two unarmed men at point-blank range after detaining them near Fallujah in April 2004. More than fifty shots were fired. Despite his admission, the military cleared Pantano of wrongdoing in 2005. He was in a tight race with incumbent Democrat Rep. Mike McIntyre in North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District. More Details Emerge of British Abuse Of Iraqis

A specialist team appointed by the government to investigate claims of abuse by British troops in Iraq has received 90 complaints involving 128 Iraqi civilians. The files, relating to allegations between March 2003 and July 2009, have been sent to Geoff White, a former head of Staffordshire CID, who heads the Iraq historic allegations team.
The unit, the creation of which was announced in March, comprises 80 staff including military investigators and former Scotland Yard homicide detectives. A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "The team is investigating all alleged cases of abuse by UK service personnel in Iraq and will identify any action that needs to be taken. We anticipate this should take around two years."
White has met Phil Shiner, of Public Interest Lawyers, who will begin a case in the high court on Friday on behalf of 142 Iraqis who claim they were abused by British troops in the aftermath of the war to topple Saddam Hussein. MORE HERE
